The New Ku Klux

Between 1865 and 1965, 2400 African Americans were lynched.  It is estimated that two or three blacks were lynched each week.

The cause of the boom was the Ku Klux Klan.

Established in 1866, there were no uniform rules of the orgnization, so they went by their own rules, to eradicate all of those who wanted equality in America, mainly African Americans.lynching.jpg

The Klan in its original form has mostly died away.  But there is a new generation of the Klan that is much more ruthless than the first.  Instead of white hoods, they wear hoodies.  Instead of burning crosses, they wear them iced out around their necks.  Instead of white males from suburbia, they are black men from the hood.

And instead of ropes, they use guns.

gun.jpgGun homicide is the #1 cause of death for African Americans between 15 and 34 year olds, with 91% of those slained were by other African Americans.  It is saddening to see the disregard of life by our African American people, by the youths in particular.  It is so easy for us to pull a trigger and end the life of one of our own without even knowing the legacy that they are contributing to that was started by the Ku Klux Klan.

As a people, we need to stop this.  As a people, we need to make a conscious effort to put away the guns so we can once again rise and come together like we once did during the Civil Rights era.

Because if we don’t, we aren’t any better than the Klan.

Because if we don’t, the eradication will continue on.
