Blurred line between fantasy and reality

I stumbled upon this story and tried my best to find something to write.  Unfortunately, I don’t have many words to fill a lot of this up.  So, all I have is the video report but I do have a few thoughts before you view the clip.

Society has a way to blame every thing for everything that goes on in our communities — especially when it affects the youths.  There are government hearings to try to ban rap music and videos that degrade women, gang members-turned-rappers being banned from concerts and lyrics about guns.  However, sex is touchy.

On Jamie Foxx’s first album Unpredictable, his song “Three Letter Word,” Foxx sang:  Sex, all the time…Sex, on my mind…Sex, everywhere I go…It’s getting to the point where I watch it on TV, when I buy DVDs. The song basically shows that you can’t avoid sex — it’s around you constantly. From magazines to TVs to right down to the movies you buy.  Because sex sells, so it gets hushed.

Sex has corrupted minds to the point that has blurred the line between what’s fantasy and what’s reality.  In the street vernacular it’s called ‘running the train.’  In the pornographic community, it is known as a gang bang.  For the rest of society, it is simply a gang rape.  One act, three different ideas.  For a lot of people, it’s their fantasy to perform a gang bang on a female — or to ‘run the train.’  But the reality is that this fantasy can get you prison time.

While listening to this story of a teenage girl getting gang raped at a school dance in Richmond, Cali., I wasn’t a bit surprised to hear that there were at least 10 people there watching (and some who participated) and none of them reported the act to the authorities.  Why would they? It’s a fantasy right? Don’t most men want to ‘run a train’ on a female? Aren’t there women out there who want to have sex with multiple men at the same time?

Despite the fact the girl was underage drinking, the blame doesn’t fall on the victim or the assailants — but on society’s insatiable lust of sex.  It is why we don’t know the difference — that one man’s fantasy is another man’s rape.

Voltron — the final excerpt

Editor’s Note: Voltron – Defender of the Universe was a Japanese animated Television series which aired in syndication from September 10, 1984 to November 18, 1985.  Following is the final of three excerpts from the now complete novelization of Voltron being written by me. 

Hunk’s voice snaps Keith out of his daze.  He blinks five times, first to wake up then to make sure he is actually looking at what he’s looking at.  They are flying straight toward the mothership and nothing could have prepared them for the sheer magnitude, the sheer enormity of the ship.

“It’s like space itself,” Sven says.  “It is like bigger than space itself.”

“Galactus.”  It is Pidge.

“Who or what are you talking about?”  asks Lance.

“Galactus, the devourer of planets.  He’s a comic book character,” explains Pidge.

“Pull up, pull up!”

The black lion sharply turns upward, barely missing plowing into the side of it.  The other four lions follow suite, each one barely missing flying head long into it. 

“What’re we gonna do Keith?  The ship is too massive for us to take on individually,” Hunk questions. 

“Let’s form Voltron,” suggests Pidge.

The black lion flips backwards ending its ascent.  The yellow, green, blue and red lions flip backwards and barrel rolls straight.  They all put space between them and the mothership.

“Activate interlock,” Keith begins as he grabs and turns a handle next to the footwell.  “Dynatherms connected, infracells up, megathrusthers are go.”

An electromagnetic energy draws the lions into formation automatically and then into phase one of the transformation.  Connected by a web of electromagnetic waves, the lions fly into a triangle with the black lion at the top, followed by the red lion to the right, the green lion to the left, with the blue lion bottom right and the yellow lion bottom left.  The blue, red, yellow and green lions draw their legs into their bodies, the black lion’s forelegs rotates to its back while its hind legs dangle down.

Phase two begins with the muzzles of both the blue and yellow lions bend outwards and then sliding onto the dangling legs of the black lion, forming feet and legs.  The electromagnetic pull draws the red and green lions into slots left by the black lion’s forelegs to form arms and body.  Phase three — the head appears from the mouth of the black lion.  Voltron’s transformation is complete.

With less than halfway to go, Voltron flies up above the ship and pauses in mid-air.  It clasps its hands together, causing a spark.  From that spark, a sword is formed from which Voltron wields in its right hand.  It comes down with the sword, slicing the ship in halves — Voltron comes back around and slices the ship in fourths.

No one on the street see the lions first — they hear the explosions from the space ship.  It is loud and it reverbrates throughout the city.  And if they did see a lion, it would have been red.

Lance was the first to release his lion from its sleep, blasting its way through the volcano’s vent and erupting from the earth like lava.  The red lion blasts through the UFO, puncturing a hole into it like the size of a well developed tornado. 

Further away, the middle of Lake Texcoco spits out Sven and the blue lion like the whale did Jonah.  It too smashes through the space ship on its ascent.  The hole it causes allows the sun shine completely through, the light beaming onto the earth like a spotlight.

In the low mountains, a dirt cloud is seen growing larger with each passing moment.  A rumble is accompanied with the cloud as the green lion runs across the land like a newly-freed animal.  With its metallic tail taunt behind it, its four metallic legs churning away on the landscape.  After covering a few miles it pauses, its head looks up as …

The black lion dives through the space ship and lands beside it.

“Have anyone heard from Hunk?” Keith asks over the lions’ communication system.

“No,” Sven answers as the blue lion touches down next to the black lion.

“Me neither,” replies Lance as another hole explodes from the ship as the red lion lands with a little trot.

“Pidge go find Hunk.  Us three will begin work on the UFO,” commands Keith.

“Roger that,” answers Pidge.

The green lion begins running again, moving like the king of beasts after its prey.  The other three lions crouch down and leap upward, flying right through the space ship.
