AfterDark Pictures is a branch of he black owned pornography studio West Coast Productions that specializes in feature films. AfterDark has produced seven films (an eighth will be released this month), including “Fatally Obsessed.”
Directed by three-time Urban X Director of the Year Bishop and written by Will Trautwein, “Fatally Obsessed” combines the concept of 1987’s “Fatal Attraction” with the ethnicity of 2009’s “Obsessed” to create an original story about retired football player David Cole whose one night stand with his Realtor Alicia Fox turns tragic when Cole shuns Fox’s love for another woman.
Nyomi Banxxx’s portrayal of Fox got her nominated by the Adult Video News for ‘Best Actress.’ Banxxx capitalizes on her screen time creating a character with a visceral obsession that rivals both Lynn Whitfield’s Brandi (“A Thin Line between Love and Hate”) and Glenn Close’s Alex Forrest.
Rock was the perfect choice for Cole. His portrayal of Cole comes off as natural,
as if it’s more of a reflection of himself than character acting. This leads to bland acting that somehow works.
Other cast members include Urban X Hall of Fame inductee Jada Fire , Male Performer of the Year Prince Yahshua and Mr. Marcus.
The DVD does have a ‘Story Only’ reel but this is a pornographic film and the best scene is from Banxxx and Rock. The two explode on camera, giving a torrid performance exemplifying the central theme of the movie. Fox gives her all to the man (Cole) she wants in the bed and he in return gives it back. It is easy to see how Fox can get obsessed, proclaiming later that she’ll do anything for him.
In an attempt to splinter the friendship between Cole and his friend Ronald Gates (Yahshua), a lingerie demonstration turns into another dynamic performance by Banxxx, this time with Yahshua. Both are two of the industry’s elite stars and the scene does not disappoint, highlighted with an intense anal.
Jada Fire and Yahshua leads off the movie with the classic boy-meets-girl-in-club-both have drunk sex scenario that ends with a pop shot on the titties and comic relief.
Jada Fire: “Where ya going?”
Yahshua: “To call you a cab.”
Jada Fire: “What?”
Rico Strong, who plays a young, brash football player has angry, prove-a-point sex with an autograph seeker (Melody Nakai) which is practically rape (which I’m not too fond of) and Skyy Black (for the lovers of big asses) and Nat Turnher ends the movie with a negotiation-sealing romp.
In this renaissance of porn parodies and equally bad black porn parodies, “Fatally Obsessed” is neither a parody or bad and with a back story that involves gambling and an unexpected twist at the end, it is a good alternative for viewers who want something more than the normal gonzo flick.
